Annual Conference 2012

29 March–1 April 2012, Durham University

Durham University, Durham, UK

Following a highly successful 2011 conference in Falmouth, the annual conference moves to the North of England for 2012. The conference will take place in Durham University, which has recently been re-established as an important centre for ethnomusicology in the UK, with the growth to a four-strong team of ethnomusicologists: Professor Martin Clayton, Dr. Laura Leante, Dr. Simon Mills, and Dr. Simone Tarsitani. The conference sessions will take place in the Music Department, which is situated in the heart of Durham’s old town, and St. Chad’s College, located within 200 metres. St. Chad’s will also provide accomodation, refreshments and amenities for all attendees at a very reasonable cost.

Aside from the UNESCO heritage site on which the awe-inspiring Cathedral, Music Department, and other University buildings stand, the City of Durham is well-known for its attractive market square, winding old streets, historical shops and pubs – all within easy walking distance for conference attendees. Making the most of these picturesque surroundings, the conference will include tours of historical sites, performances by top musicians, and opportunities to sample local specialities – including folk music!

The  Call for Proposals for Presentations is now closed. No further abstracts will be considered.
